What is Patching?

Patching means applying a specific kind of update known as a "patch" to a system or software. Analogous to patching over a hole in one's clothing by sewing on an extra patch of fabric, patches are updates designed with the express intention of removing software vulnerabilities. In other words, they cover up the holes in a system's cyber defenses.
